Cookie Notice

DRAFT — NOT YET REVIEWED BY A LAWYER. The table below must match what Frithon actually sets. A cookie notice that lists a cookie the site does not use, or omits one it does, is worse than none: it is a written statement that is untrue.
The short version
Frithon uses four cookies. Three of them are strictly necessary and cannot be turned off, because without them you cannot stay signed in. The fourth is optional, off unless you ask for it, and measures nothing about you personally.
We do not use advertising cookies. We have no advertising, no advertising partners, and no tracking pixels belonging to anybody else.

The analytics row is a placeholder. Frithon does not currently run analytics at all. Either an analytics tool is chosen, and this row is filled in with its real cookie name and lifetime, or the row and the `analytics_cookies` consent question are both removed. Asking permission for something that does not exist is not harmless — it is a question the person answered for nothing.
Why the necessary ones do not need your permission
Because the law says a cookie that is strictly necessary to provide a service the person actually asked for does not require consent. You asked to sign in; the sign-in cookie is how that works. We tell you about them here anyway, because you should know what is on your machine.
The optional one
Analytics is unticked when you register. Ticking it is entirely up to you, and nothing about Frithon works differently either way. You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy, and the change takes effect immediately.
Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as an instruction to switch the optional cookie off, whatever the box in your settings says.
Local storage
Frithon also keeps a small amount of data in your browser's own storage — your theme, and a draft of anything you were part-way through typing. This never leaves your computer and is not sent to us.
